Hi Folks,

For those of you that are sitting on the fence or are unconvinced that this might be a worthwhile event, I promise you that you'll not regret coming to the 2011 Internationals.

It's time to make preparations for container shipping NOW.

Hi Henry,
I had preferred to charter but in the absence of any feedback from your committee I have decided to get to work and complete the rebuild of 7191, so Norman/Mark/Steven whoever is taking names, count me in.

OKay here's the latest...

Rob Lyne @ Allen Brothers has offerd to organise a container & the necessary paperwork, all we have to do is fill it.
The 45ft high cube would be the fovourite as this may lead to a cost saving (budget is £750), for this we only need 10 boats.

81** Rob Lyne, Pete Grey
8130 John Herbert, Mark Calvert
6403 Norman Halstead, Crew
7191 Crawford Reid, Crew
8076 Will Gulliver, Steve Graham
81** Nev Herbert, Mark Fowler
8128 Jerry Rook, Crew
Storm Steve Brown, Frank Guthtie.

These 8 boats will be going & so there is in effect only 2 spaces available....

Wow this is great news! Clearly a great deal has happened off-line and without my being aware of it.

Just a note of caution though. I've done this trip 3 or 4 times previously and we can only get 8 boats in a 45 ft high top container.

Ok I need to ask Rob to check out the high cube, but that means the first container is full without:

Any other boats from Scotland
Anyone of the other potential 'rock star' crews in the sidelines
Any boat that finished in the top 10 at Lyme Regis

Strong possibles or considering

Jean & Derek Simmons
Trevor & Anne Smith
Phil Tindall & Crew
Mike Banner & Anne
Mike McNamara & Crew
Matt Thompson & Crew
Judy & Paul Armstrong
John Woffinden & Crew
Chris Turner & Crew

My intention is to go, but I cant comit to a container space until I know if I have a crew who wants to sail regularly and do the events.
If I will be sailing with a scratch crew, I dont think it is worth shipping my boat over.
Put me on the list as a maybe for now.

Norm,

You can fit twelve Albacores, (collapsible) trolleys and gear in a 45 ft high cube container.

You can fit eight Albacores in a 40 foot high cube container.

You can fit six Albacores in a 40 foot regular container.

hello all container sailors... ;)

I will be in a position to publish a provisional schedule next week.

I realise everyone would wish to load on their doorstep, but a decision as to where will have to be made. I guess if we have a concerntration of boats in an area of the country then that may sway it, if it comes down to costs then the shippers yard would be an option.

This ball is now rolling & the clock is ticking.

Just an update on provisional scheldules.

Cost information is coming in now from Peters & May.

As mentioned the ocean transit for export is around 9 days. At the moment the outbound vessels depart Liverpool every Tuesday meaning we would have to load the container the Friday before and get on quay by close of play Friday for export. Once arrived into Montreal you will need to allow approx 4/5 working days for customs clearance and delivery to destination.

For the return of containers the vessels depart Montreal every Sunday with a transit of 7 days back to Liverpool. This means we would have to load and have containers on quay ready for shipping by the Wednesday before. On arrival in Liverpool you will then need to allow approx 3 / 4 days for import customs clearance and delivery.

This is based on a 40ft high cube container that can hold 8 if not 9 Albs, with trolleys & rigs.

Regards to All Mark...

From Experience it takes significantly longer than the times you have been quoted....

Yes - when we took the container to the USA in 2007 I believe 6 weeks was allowed. The US customs chose our container for a random thorough inspection and it only just got there in time.
I would allow 7 weeks to be safe.
I would like to send my boat but will not know for sure for some time yet. If the container is filled in the meantime then so be it.
Cheers

This is preliminary information, apparently the route through to Toronto is an expressway so to speak.

We don't want to load the boats too early & have them sat at Toronto Yacht club for a couple of weeks, however, we don't want to miss the event due to an over zealous customs officer.

Having talked to Peters & May I'm sure they can manage things in 5 weeks, even allowing for minor complications.

I don't have any detail but the schedule for the event is spread over 14 days.

keeping you posted
