Broadwater SC 26th March - After a promising forecast all week Saturday started with absolutely no wind at all , the fleet of 13 boats waited and munched on Bacon Rolls as the Race officer Dave Walford wisely postponed, by 11.15 a gentle breeze had picked up and the fleet launched to start the first race, sure enough the wind then dropped leaving a few boats no where near the line.
Race 1 got underway with Barry Wicks 8061 taking and early lead closely followed by Guy Kilby 7754 these two seemed to have their own private supply of wind. Barry in a borrowed boat was first to round the windward mark followed by Guy and then Graham Darvill in 7507 with a close pack of boats hot on their heels, then began a long slow run to the now shortened finish line, Graham overtook Guy and was catching Barry, but didn’t quite get there, places changed on the run . Barry got the gun , 7507 second with Phil in 8129 3rd.
A break for lunch was in order and the fleet thoroughly enjoyed Catherines Lasagne and Charlottes cakes.
Race 2 got underway in a freshening breeze which was shifting 45deg making the race officers job a nightmare. 7507 made a brave port tack start and cleared the fleet, rounding 1st ahead of 8129 Phil Tindall, 8129 passed 7507 on the run but was re taken again on the beat, a close race was had all through the fleet with lots of place changing. The race officer positioned the boat for the finish line and Phil thought they had shortened, going for the line to try and take the lead, but another lap was to be done which allowed Barry in 8061 to overtake him and push him down to 3rd , with John Wolfendon 4th and Brian Deacon from the home club in veteran 1717 to take 5th.
After a tea break race 3 took place in what was now a nice breeze, once again 7507 took the port flyer and lead from start to finish bar a brief lapse allowing John 8126 a chance for the lead this however was short lived. Final positions were Graham in 7507, John in 8126 and 3rd going to 8129. With 8061 in 4th,
Prizes were presented to the winning crews along with middle fleet boat and furthest travelled visitor
