Its been suggested before and its a great place to race. There are still a few Albs raced at the clubs but they are on the decline. Its possible to ferry a boat over there and its been done with lots of different boats. Where did you see the Alb? Dhekelia?

Derek and I certainly discussed this as a venue when we first suggested the "euros", because of the RAF connection with Albacores.

Does anyone know if there is still this RAF connection within our class, it could be a good start to get a contact if there is someone out there.

What would be the best way to get there?

Shetland is still an offshore possibility for next year depending on dates of the Nationals, who knows when they are proposed for?

Cheers

Steven

I bought the last of the RAF fleet of Albacores about 3 years ago. So far I have collected 3 and there are supposed to be two more somewhere in Scotland. No one seems to know where or exactly how many. All the Enterprises were supposed to have gone years ago and the RAF, locally at least, seemed to have plumped for Laser 2000. "See the mighty fallen"

The last 2 Akrotiri Woofs went through Dhekelia about 8 years ago. They were almost beyond redemption though one was given a bit of a new lease of life by Colin Leigh circa 6953? On my last visit I wasn't aware that its still in use. The problem with a dry hot climate is the glue dries out and the veneers start to delaminate. The plus side is epoxy goes off really quickly when repairing boats.

There are still a couple of private Woofs, Nick Staunton has a rather nice one. Phil Crebbins old boat 5*** Young has been bought by a Cypriot and restored and is now in Limmassol I believe. Also Colin's old Kingsfield is still around. Colin has now left the island after 20 years of service as Bosun and Generally every Committee post at Dhekelia at some time or other. He is now living in Fordingbridge Hants.
