Sign of the times, my local chandlery

Dear Sailor,

Closure of Lynall Boats

It is with great sadness that we are announcing the closure of Lynall

Boats. During the last couple of years the business has held its own

and turned a small profit. We weren’t looking to set the world on fire

but for the effort we put in, sufficient reward is just not there. In the

interest of being responsible businessmen we have decided to close

the store with no creditors whatsoever.

The buying habits of most dinghy sailors have changed radically in the

last 5 years or so. Lives have become busier and price driven

shopping on-line has taken over from traditional face to face shops.

Another factor is the dawn of the Outlet Store - we can in some

instances buy clothing from an outlet store at less than trade price.

These companies have chosen to cheapen their brands and kill off the

independent store which is a great shame. In other cases suppliers

are choosing to deal direct with the public and squeeze out their long

established dealer networks. There are of course some of you that still

enjoy the personal service and we are extremely grateful for your

loyalty over the years. I can only apologise that you will be losing this

local service but unfortunately there are just not enough of you.

Dave has been involved with this shop since 1989 and we all

remember using ‘Boats of Cheltenham’ before that. It does seem like

the end of an era and if anyone, perhaps retired or with independent

means has the ability to run a hobby business, now is the time to call

us – it won’t break the bank. If we hear nothing in the next few days

we will commence a closing down sale as follows:-

The last full week of shop opening will be 9 – 13th March, thereafter it

will be open Saturdays only from 9.30 till 5pm.

Saturdays only will be 20th March, 27th March, 3rd April, 10th April,

17th April, 24th April, 1st May.

If stock runs out very quickly we may drop the last few Saturdays.

The sale will begin on Tuesday 2nd March - it will be very simply 20%

off absolutely everything from Harken cleats to Laser sails to rope to

paint to wetsuit boots etc etc. Don’t leave it too long to come shopping,

no more stock is being ordered and popular lines will sell out fast. It’s

a great opportunity to replace some kit or top up the spares box for

the forthcoming season.

Best Regards,

Dave, Buzz, Antony, Steve and James
