I am almost ready to start varnishing 1543 after what seems like a life time of sanding. After a bit of research I decided on Ravilakk varnish and phone Shepherd Marine to order some, only to be told that Ravilakk is not suitable for below the water line. Has anybody got any advise on what is a good varnish for, decks and the inside and out of the hull, all of which have been stripped to bare wood

Cheers

Ian

Phoned them again, Ravilakk is OK for the hull as long as it is not continually immersed. Varnish ordered hopefully be on the water soon.

I am aiming to be ready to sail with some other Albs in the Wirral and Mersey Regatta's at the end of May

There is some good varnishing advice on the CVDRA website in the hints and tips section. Well worth a read.

Epifanes gives a great finish. One pot suitable for decks but not below waterline. Its hard to get hold of. Chandlers in Poole used to have it as did Bussells of Weymouth. Its very easy to use and flows beautifully.
