I am looking for a rudder stock that would be suitable sailing in a river. Any preference and suggestions between the RWO and the Sea Sure is appreciated.

I am sure it can be made in glass.

I have a Cee Vee stock and a new Milanes rudder. Very Impressed. I have had a Cee Vee stock before and I would recommend.

Cheers

These Allen stocks look good & I'm sure will be up for the job, the rudder blades need to be a better profile fit in them however.

Probably a rush job for the show.

The HA cast stocks are very resilient apart from the split pin which elongates the hole through the blade which can be epoxied and re-drilled periodically. I have also severely bent the split pins on running aground. I prefer the CV stocks though more expensive.

I have used the Sea Sure stock & attached tiller on 2 boats over 10 years. The only problem I had was after about 6 years the tiller broke off due to corrosion around the rivets - due to being used in salt water I guess. The stock also survived unharmed running aground when the rudder blade was smashed.

Fixed rudders are really the answer if you can put up with the hassle of launching & coming ashore!

I think most boats run a Cee Vee rudder stock these days. I bought one last year to replace my broken Tufnol stock. I was not over impressed by the quality, the heads of the screws holding the botom gudgeon fitting protruded on the inside of the checks.

I hd a look at the Allen Brothers Stock at the Dinghy Exhibition this year CNC machined from solid. www.allenbrothers.co.uk/news_detail.asp?id=44

It looks very sexy not sure if they fit Albs however

Hi Ian,

It can be made with fibre glass, but not carbon fibre. Carbon fibre is not allowed in the Albacore rules. If it was allowed then everyone would have to go out and buy carbon foils and poles and then you end up with check book sailing.
