Hi All

I have recently purchased a nice wooden boat but it has a flat cover.

I'm tempted to buy a breathable boom up cover because it will spend much of its time outside.

Is this asensibel step and any advice regarding the best ones to buy?

Cheers

Rich

Hi Rich

Yes, I think a breathable polycotton over boom cover is definately a sensible idea. I have one made by Speedsails but I'm looking to replace it with a Rain & Sun cover which, on looking at other Albacores in our club (South Cerney SC), seem to fit better. Also think about the long skirted option which offers protection lower down the hull, especially if you are keeping your boat outside all the time.

I hope that is helpful.

I agree with Dave that a long skirt cover is a good idea especially if your hull is varnished on the outside. On my last alb I used a 'normal' cover. Within two years after a strip revarnish I could see a 'cover shadow' in the topside where the sun had bleached the unprotected areas.
