14 Albs made the trip to Florida for the One Design Mid Winters held at the Sarasota Sailing Squadron. The racing was held in light to medium winds, typically around 5 knots in the morning building to around 10 in the afternoon. 85 degree heat, white beaches and turquoise water. Sailed over three days, with between 3 and 4 races aday, the racing was over short windward leeward courses, with each race being approx 45 minutes.

The racing was very close with the lead changing constantly. Ultimatley it was George Carter (CAN) who sailed an outstanding series to win from Barney Harris (USA), with Ian Brayshaw (CAN) third, Teresa Miolla (CAN) fourth and myself fifth.

Picture perfect location, ideal sailing conditions and decent camping fascilities, combined with being only 40 minutes from Tampa airport. Early rumours suggest the venue could make the perfect location for the 2015 Worlds..?

Sounds just like sailing heaven if only the breezes had been 15- 20 knots instead of 5-10.
Windward - leeward courses -sounds a good idea for us to try out- after all lots of classes miss out the reaching legs these days

Jerry...with reaching being the most exciting aspect of Alb sailing, I can't think why one would consider missing them out from a course?

I agree in winds above force 3, but in light winds they can be just a procession - runs are more interesting in lighter winds as they offer the prospect of the back markers catching up. They were a bit too exciting for me at Llandudno though.
