Hi All

I have the old style quadrant adjusters on my boat. They work fine but having read some horror stories about them failing I wanted to look at alternatives.

As I understand it is the lever that has failed - could this be replaced with stainless steel ?

Could you use a 'safety' line that would prevent the shroud failing totally if the adjuster failed ?

If I go to a cascade system is there a guide somewhere that shows me what is required ? Is it easy to fit ?

Cheers for any advice

I think it's unlikely you'll be able to get something stainless off the shelf to fit the quadrants now, and it may be difficult to get a safety line incorporated into it.

How many horror stories have you read about them failing  ? It may only go if really corroded?

If you want to go the fully adjustable rig way with pulleys though, the best thing to do would be to go an Alb racing event with your camera and take a few pics of different adjustable rig systems and see what's best suited (easiest ;)) to incorporate into your hull.

Hi

My boat has got quadrant shroud adjusters and they failed in our last race of the season last year. It wasn't the lever that failed, the bolt acting as the lever pivot sheared through. Apart from that there was no significant damage to rest of the fitting or the boat.

I spent a couple of months trying to decide which system I should replace the levers with eventually deciding to keep the quadrants. A new M6 30mm A4 Hex Bolt , with some additional M10 penny washers (to reinforce the sleeve) has done the job, they now work fine.

I should probably have replaced the bolts when I got the boat, they didn't look in perfect condition but my local shop didn't have the right bolts when I initially checked the boat over and after a while I forgot about them.

You might want to check the bolts look in good condition.
