Richard Smith has now joined the party.

That makes 10 boats now.
We cannot fit any more into a 45ft container - need space for trolleys!

But.. 6 more boats means 2 x 40 foot containers (8 each)

Any more wishing to join now will have the option to back out if there are not enough to fill the second container, or to agree as a group to contribute the extra per boat to make it happen.

Therefore you have nothing to lose by signing up and joining the scheme.

Tim Wadsworth - 8154 is now on board.

So effectively we now have a full 40 footer with 8 boats and a second
container now with 3 boats - 5 more!!

 Hmmm let me think........

Pete Lawrence?
Graham Darvil?
Phil Smith?
Rob Lyne?
Anyone from Shetland?

Let me know:-

Great news guys.

Can you e-mail me: matthewthompson(at)btconnect.com and I will send the bank details.
£225 1st payment by the end of January.
Then £75 per month Feb to October - Total £900

I am also in discussions with a second Scottish boat that looks likely to commit.

That would bring the total to 13!!!

3 more to fill the second container.

Spaces running out quickly!!

Latest update...

Latest shipping quotes indicate that the £900 budget per boat is more than adequate. Some very diverse figures and a few sharp practices from so called professionals in the 'boat transportation' field.

However, one thing that has come out of this is that a 45ft high cube container (for 9/10 boats) would not be cost effective - they are like hens teeth with prices to match.

So, we have one full container (8 boats) and one half full so far (4 boats).
4 places left - with one nearly sold.
First come first served.

Matt.

 :silly:  B)

Don't hold me to ransom on this - prices can change (pound:dollar etc)
But shipping costs are looking like £750-£800 per boat based on 8 per container and that includes for loading at various UK locations such as Manchester and Tewkesbury, with sailing from Southampton.

I did say £900 would be a more than adequate budget.

So come on - no excuse now.
The savings plan will still require £900 in total but that will now help offset the flight costs.

Barry,

It does not include shipping insurance.
I have been told that a block insurance on the shipment may be quite costly because of aggregation. It should be cheaper to arrange your own individual insurance together with the cover you will need for competition in US waters.

I will though find out what the cost would be and let all know.

Hi Matt,

I checked with Nobel yesterday and they have said we would need to arrange shipping insurance with the container or shipping company, to insure the boat for whilst we are out there is only an additional £35 each.

My experience is that round trip shipping insurance will cost typically between 1% - 2% of stated value and can be bought through the CARNET provider or shipping company. You guys ARE planning on using a CARNET, right? Don't go without one. Better insurance rates are probably available through third party vendors - and I can tell you it pays to shop around and to ask for a lower rate. Shipping insurance typically covers the container contents for the round trip while the container is on a truck, lifted by crane in port, or on the ship in the ocean but not after un packing and sailing on Sarasota Bay. Thrilled to see all of this activity in this regard.

Albacore mid winters are in March 21-23, 2014. Anyone want to fly over for a practice? Tell me and I will arrange a boat but do it quick.
