I am restoring an unidentifiable hull originally from Maidenhead SC. Found 1464 written on boom but nothing else. Boat on verge of write-off as extensive rot and multiple previous repairs/bodges. Now complete but overweight as floor doubled with 4mm ply. .

Traces of blue paint on hull. Does anyone know anything of history?

Also would like info on rigging:
Two holes with bushes about midships and just below gunwhale - what are these for?

No mainsheet traveller but two holes in transom suggest bridle of some sort.

Does anyone have a metal C/B?
Thanks
Paul

Hi Paul

A couple of points.

First the bushed holes around midships - I have something similar on Blue Jay and they are used for righting lines which run to fittings on each side of the boat close to the stern and just up under each gunwhale. The lines are tied off inside the boat with a stopper knot and run through the hull and along either side towards the stern. I have finished mine off with bungee cord which then completes the run to the aft fitting. This keeps the line tight but the advantage being that you can pull the line down when required for use.

Concerning the holes in either side of the transom they might be for a bridle or possibly for the tails of a split tail main sheet if she is rigged for centre main. All early boats were of course originally rigged for aft main but can be converted to centre main.

I am not sure of the merits of a metal plate but I am sure others can advise.

I hope someone can help with identifying your boat.

Good sailing

Many thanks Andy; I had heard about righting lines on Albacores and as I am nearly 80 I may need them!.

Are there any sketches of mainsheet arrangements using a transom bridle? My boat is fitted with centre main.

I use a aft sheeted main on my boat. Its a very simple system, nothing complicated. I can't paste an image on this forum but if you go to the following link:

you should be able to see a photo of my boat and you can see the sheeting system.

Hello Tim Thanks for the pic.;I see that you do not have centre sheeting it must be quite a lot to hold with this arrangement. Your boat is almost identical to mine; do you know who built her and what is your sail number? It appears that you do not have a mast gate and neither does mine.

Paul

Hi Paul,
the boat is 6812, about 35 years old and was built by Knight and Pink. I use an auto-ratchet block to take the strain of the mainsheet so it only functions as a ratchet when its windy. It cost about £40 but was worth the money.
There is no mast gate, just a slot in the deck, which can make stepping the mast hard work but I've got the knack of it now.
