Does any one fancy doing some proper sea sailing? Sun 26th June
The Nore Race is a 16 mile race out into the mouth of the Thames Estuary. The start is off the end of Southend Pier and the coarse takes us out along the northern shores past Foulness island & the Maplin Sands then across the shipping lane close to the Red Sand Towers to the Kent shore and the isle of Sheppey. The course then takes us past the second World War II wreck of the Richard Montgomery around the Nore sands and then back to the pier head. Its a great day out on the water.
The race normally attracts about 150 entries of which 70 are Dinghies (of all types) There is a trophy for Albacores although it has not been well contested in recent times. Albercores do well when the winds are light with a long windward leg up the Kent shore.
There are a number of yacht clubs along the foreshore who welcome visiting yachtsmen launch facilities. I will probably launch off the beach at Thorpe Bay
