Sorry to ask directly on the forum but the webmaster page on registry is bouncing my email...

Below is a paste of my question...I wonder if anyone can help please? The list I am referring to in it is the Albacore identification guide..

I've looked reasonably comprehensively through your list of builders, numbers and photographs to try and identify the above...alas without seeing either number or picture that I can conclusively identify.

Mine has 6402 etched in to the transom and there is a set of sails that match this. She looks most similar to the Riverside built model and the number is close to the final batch number and within the miscellaneous spectrum on your pictures but with the significant difference of lacking the 'steps' in the bow tank. There are also hardwood latitudinal struts toward the front on the centreboard case. I have attached pictures but I didn't take them with this identification in mind, my apologies - I'll take more if necessary.

She is in original (though badly scratched) brown gel coat with a pale green deck and tank mould colour. The name on her was 'Spartacus' and the clubs I can decipher appear to be Thames Estuary and Harwich...East Coast boat that I found inland near Grafham.

Many thanks in anticipation if you can help :)

Hi Andrew

It looks like a Rondar to me. Is there a builders plate on the back of the centreboard case?
The sail number is consistent with the time Rondars were being built, and the colour scheme is typical of a Rondar boat.

She competed in the nationals in the late 1970s see:

Thanks John

No, no maker-plate, it looks as though something has been attached over where it should be in the past...the only thing that confused me is that I thought the Rondar description referred to a moulded in aft thwart? The hardwood struts could have been retro-fitted I guess...there's also a hardwood pad behind the rudder fittings on the inside of the transom.

Thanks again!

Almost certainly a Rondar 6401 definitely is a Rondar and at Broadwater,

I responded to this 2 days ago, but it seems to have disappeared into the ether somewhere...

In summary:

It is absolutely a Rondar - very similar to the ones I sailed at that time. It's also registered with the RYA as a Rondar. It was measured on May 6th 1976 and registered on May 20th.

It's done the Nationals 4 times. The first of those times (I think 1976 but could have mis-remembered since my earlier post) it was crewed by one C. Devenport who of course went on to win the Nationals some years later. Subsequently it was sailed by Rick Paxman who sailed in many Championships in different boats.

Sorry the original post went walk-about!
