Hi all,

I enjoyed seeing the new albacore at the stand. the chap on the stand at the time pointed us to this forum for a question about our boats name. We have recently bought a really old Albacore, sail number 1152 unfortunatly it does not have a name. I know its bad luck to rename a boat so i just wondered if anyone had any details of previously registered names?

You could try to call the RYA technical dept to see if they have details of the boat. They are normally pretty helpful. If the boat has been registered they should have details of the previous owner, builder and name. This is not necessarily the origenal name of the boat but the name the boat was last registered in. If you pay about £20 they will re register the boat and you will get a new certificate.
I don't think it is considered unlucky to rename a boat when it changes ownership. It is however considered unluky to re name a boat with out it changing hands!

According to the RYA listing 1152 was called "Mistral". As Richard says, the name registered at the RYA is the most recent name that they are aware of, so it may not be the original name.

If you're interested it was registered on 6th August 1961, but not measured until 5th June 1963 (can't explain the delay).
