Report of day 1 from Jerry Rook

The shifty 5 knot Northerly sea breeze turned out better than the forecast 1-2 knots and the fleet were lucky to get in the 2 races on the programme in the wall-to-wall sunshine..
Defending champions Barney Harris and David Byrom from the USA won the first race in fine style but could only manage 11th in the second which was won by Tom Gillard from Phil Smith crewed by Steve Graham. The series is lead by "Mr Consistent" Nev Herbert and Mark Fowler who had 2 thirds

Day 2 Albacore Nationals LLandudno

The sun stayed strong and the wind light but just enough to get three races in on Day 2 of the Albacore Nationals at LLandudno SC in North Wales. Each of the three races saw plenty of place changes with one mistake easily costing 5 places in the competitive fleet. Races 3 and Race 5 were won by Tom Gillard & Andy Elliot with Barney Harris& David Byron taking the 4th. Weed on the board or rudder was a problem in quite a few areas of the course on top of the risk of sunburn! Overall Tom Gillard and Andrew Elliot lead ahead of Barney Harris and David Byron (who are also counting an unheard of 10th) with Nev Herbert and Mark Fowler in third. The event concludes on Monday with the weather forecast indicating more of the same. Final results and pictures to follow.

Today's report from Norman:

Race 6 started in a force 2 Northerly, which steadily dropped until it almost stopped at which point the direction started moving around too. A bit like Maidenhead on a good day! The unstable wind meant us hanging around for an hour or so before race 7 was cancelled and everyone came ashore for (liquid) sustenance.

I'm not sure if race 6 was completed or not, so dont have final results.

The new Champions are Tom Gillard and Andy Elliott.

I hope Mike Banner is sending in full results.
Llandudno Sailing Club did a very good job in very difficult circumstances - my crew actually got his bottom on the side-deck on 2 occasions during the weekend- not actually hiking though!
It was good to be reminded of all I had forgotten about light-weather racing.
It was also good to see plenty of younger competitors including the winning helmsman

As it was one of my jobs in the boat to keep an eye on the competition I could probably put a reasonable report together if someone wants to send me the full results.
